Community guidelines
Community Guidelines
Harivulagam is a space for seekers — people who want to understand how ideas connect across traditions, sciences, and inner experience. These guidelines exist to protect that space: to keep it open, honest, and free from the forces that turn knowledge platforms into either battlegrounds or echo chambers.
Please read them before contributing.
1. Two Kinds of Content, Two Sets of Rules
Everything on Harivulagam falls into one of two layers. Know which one you are working in.
Knowledge Entries (this wiki)
- What they are: Neutral, sourced, encyclopedic entries about texts, concepts, people, events, and discoveries.
- Tone: Descriptive, not interpretive. State what is known and cite where it comes from.
- Editing: Open to the community. Anyone can improve, correct, or expand.
- Rule: If you cannot cite a source, mark it as uncertain. Do not present speculation as fact.
Connection Articles (main site)
- What they are: Authored trails from the known to the unknown — interpretations, resonances, and syntheses.
- Tone: Personal, exploratory, clearly marked as one person's insight.
- Editing: Restricted to the author and invited contributors.
- Rule: These are not open for community rewriting. If you disagree, you may write a response, but you may not edit the original.
The wiki holds facts. The main site holds connections. Do not confuse them.
2. The AI Disclosure Rule
AI is a tool, not a witness. It can help translate, organize, summarize, and map connections. It cannot have a dream, receive an intuition, or witness an experience.
Therefore:
- Any content generated or substantially assisted by AI must be disclosed. Add a note at the top or bottom of the entry: "This entry was drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by a human contributor."
- Undisclosed AI content will be removed. Not because AI is forbidden, but because pretending AI is a human voice is a form of deception.
- AI cannot be cited as a source. "ChatGPT said" is not a reference. If AI points you to a source, go to the source and cite that.
- AI-generated "insights" or "dreams" are not permitted. These belong to no one and deceive everyone.
The goal is not to ban AI. The goal is to keep human witness and machine output clearly distinguishable.
3. No Deletion for Being Wrong
This is the most important rule on this wiki.
No entry is deleted for being incorrect, unpopular, or disputed.
Instead:
- If a fact is wrong: Correct it, and note in the edit summary what was changed and why.
- If a claim is disputed: Add a "Disputed" section showing both sides, with sources.
- If an interpretation is contested: Leave it, and let the connection article address the contestation.
- If content is abusive, spam, or AI-generated without disclosure: That is the only case for removal.
Why this rule exists: Socrates was feared because he asked questions the powerful had agreed not to ask. A knowledge platform that deletes uncomfortable content becomes a "yes world" — where everyone agrees and nothing new is said. We would rather have a messy, honest archive than a clean, silent one.
4. Three Types of Connection (Label Them)
When you link two ideas, label the kind of link you are making. This is not bureaucracy — it is honesty.
| Tag | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
#Historical Influence
|
Documented transmission — A influenced B | Greek thought → Islamic scholars → European Renaissance |
#Structural Resonance
|
Similar pattern, no proven contact | Yantra geometry ↔ fractal mathematics |
#Intuitive Connection
|
Personal insight — yours | A dream that echoes a verse you had not read |
Mixing these types without labeling them is what creates conflict. Labeling them is what creates trust.
5. How to Disagree
Disagreement is welcome. Disrespect is not.
- Criticize ideas, not people.
- Cite sources when you challenge a claim.
- If you are unsure, say so. "I think this may be wrong, but I am not certain" is a valid contribution.
- Do not edit another contributor's connection article. Write a response instead.
- Assume good faith. Most people here are seeking, not attacking.
6. What Belongs Here
Belongs:
- Entries on texts, traditions, concepts, people, and events
- Sourced historical and scientific information
- Documented accounts of dreams and intuitions (clearly attributed and dated)
- Cross-references to related entries
- Respectful questions and discussion on talk pages
Does not belong:
- Unsourced speculation presented as fact
- AI-generated "insights" or fabricated experiences
- Personal attacks, spam, or promotional content
- Content that claims to be the only truth and dismisses all others
- Copyrighted material used without permission
7. The Spirit of This Project
Harivulagam exists because knowledge is not a set of isolated boxes. Ideas flowed across cultures, were sometimes obscured, and are still being recovered. This wiki is a place to hold what is known — clearly, honestly, and without fear.
The main site is where those known things are connected into trails. This wiki is where the trails begin.
Build carefully. Cite honestly. Disagree respectfully. And never delete something just because it is uncomfortable.
